West Virginia

Two of the highlights from this trip were the towns of Prince and Thurmond. With a population of 116, Prince is not where one would expect to find a fully functioning Amtrak station with a waiting area and a ticket window, but for the rural, aging population with limited internet access, this station is a lifeline connecting them to the larger world. Thurmond is mostly abandoned, with the town serving as a museum run by the National Park service, though it also serves as a stop on the same Amtrak line as Prince.
